Madagascar being one of the world’s poorest countries also possesses abundant resources such as raffia. Approximately 80% of its population lives in poverty, including Bako, a woman who used to support her family by washing clothes. Her husband, working as a construction worker, struggled with an unstable income. Together, they could only afford one meal per day for their whole family.
Fortunately, Bako received guidance from church sisters and learned the art of crochet. With her newfound skill and our initial funding, we designed these “Rainbow Pouches” and commissioned her to handcraft them for us under the brand name of BÉNIR. The additional income generated from this endeavour allowed Bako’s family to enjoy three meals a day and purchase basic electrical appliances, significantly improving their quality of life.
“BÉNIR,” means “blessing” in French, is a brand co-founded by missionaries and 3Scents.
Our mission is to provide employment opportunities that empower local women like Bako – enabling them and their families to break free from poverty. Through the BÉNIR brand, we aim to inspire hope and allow these women to embrace the promise symbolized by the rainbow.
